Friday April 22nd, 2011 What we are reading around here

Reading is such a big part of our unschooling experience that I wanted to share some of our favorites from this past week:

This was a really great book. Pop ups and little pull outs, a big hit with everybody!

This is a great book that we got at a doctors visit.

Great program here in Cincinnati, our Childrens hospital gives all kids a brand new book with every check up. Bean got this at her 18 month well check.

We love to play the "alphabet game" like "A my name is Alice, my husbands name is Alfred, we live in Arizona and we like Apples" This book lists all kinds of new and familiar fruits and veg from A to Z with awesome pictures.

I I picked this one up off the shelf for my two oldest and decided to read it myself...wow! I could not put it down, really! This was a page turner! Geared for teens, but didn't most of us enjoy Harry Potter?

Oh, my Gretchen LOVES these books! A little archaic, set in the 60's, but so, so sweet. If you are extremely liberal in your thinking these books may offend you (just a warning) they are very mommy at home, daddy at work. We adore these sweet books at our house!

See! I like them so much I posted two pictures!

of, I didn't realize I had already posted one picture...beginner!

My oldest is reading this series-The Maximum Ride books. That would be James Patterson as author with Bean's sweet little hand on the cover!
Sebastian loves these books!

Fun! Just Fun!

Very fun too!

Havens newest series. She loves the author(ess) Lisi Harrison-she devoured The Clique books, as well as the Alphas series (both by Lisi also)

THIS is our absolute family fave! This is actually book two of the Gregor series...we are reading the series out loud at night as we hunker down for bed. This book is so awesome because it appeals to all my listeners, boys and girls, from 7-13! They all love this book. Suzanne Colllins also wrote The Hunger Games series-those were great books too! Everyone in our family loves her books> If you have not gotten thewse for yourself or your kids, make sure to put these on hold at your library...you WILL NOT be disappointed!

Have a reflective, and prayerful Good Friday.

  1. That is such a great program - the books at well-baby visits - we also had that in Buffalo, and we have a little collection of books the kids got from the doctor there. They don't do that here; I think they should do it *everywhere* just to make sure every child at least has a few books. (I always felt a little guilty taking our book because we certainly have plenty, and some kids don't have any at all...) xoxo
