Saturday June 11th, 2011 Discovery Forest

Last of the Mohican posts for awhile, least till we return. This was a curious little gem that we stumbled upon- it is called the Discovery Forest in the Mohican State Forest which is in the State Park. It is essentially a lesson in forest preservation and how the state park selected and reduced trees to help the forest grow.

I'm not sure my poor photography does the forest justice. What you are supposed to see is trees growing behind rows one and two, but none in row three (which were selectively removed)

Which results in this beauty....

and this...

All for these beauties to enjoy!
Oh how I adore them!

Notice how far away they try to get away from me! :)

  1. 51 year old trees! Fun to imagine all the things that have gone on in the lifetime of those trees heh? ;-)
